Summary / Abstract (Note)The Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) found itself in a very precarious position in the early 1990s. Constituent republics like Slovenia clamored for less centralism while elites in Belgrade-most notably the army-hurrily enacted re-centralization plans. The JNA watched as the country was falling apart and attempted to counteract that trend with force if necessary. The end result left Yugoslavia a relic of the past.
