Summary / Abstract (Note)José Florindo Flores (alias 'Comrade Artemio'), the head of the Shining Path ( Sendero Luminoso: SL) faction operating in the Upper Huallaga Valley, was captured in a badly wounded condition, Peruvian Minister of Defence Alberto Otarola announced on 12 February. The 47-year-old Artemio was injured on 9 February following a clash with the national police in the Tocache province of the northern department of San Martín, and captured by security forces on 12 February. According to Otarola, Artemio is currently in hospital having almost lost his right arm.
