Summary / Abstract (Note)The current international political and economic order was mainly established after the WWII. It has been seriously challenged by the changing international landscape particularly since the beginning of the 21st century. In addition, quantitative changes have taken place in the balance of power between developed and developing countries. The establishment of the mechanism of cooperation among the BRICS countries is increasingly posing a challenge to the traditional monopoly of advanced countries in world economic, political and governance systems. The inception, growth and strengthening of the BRICS was necessitated by international developments and reflects the desire of emerging countries to reform the unfair international political and economic order. As the current situation continues to evolve, the BRICS will lead emerging markets in reshaping the international landscape.
