Summary / Abstract (Note) | Within weeks of his taking over as general officer commanding, 15 Corps, on 11 June 2013, Lt Gen. Gurmit Singh, a veteran of counter-insurgency (CI) operations in the state having served in various capacities for nearly a decade, had his baptism by fire. On June 24, terrorists attacked an army convoy on the busy Hyderpora (heart of Srinagar) bypass, firing at two vehicles held up in evening traffic, killing eight soldiers and injuring 15. |
