Title ProperIslamic Da'wa Party and the mobilization of Iraq's Shi'i community, 1958 –1965
LanguageENG
AuthorAlaaldin, Ranj
Summary / Abstract (Note)Based on extensive field research and primary source material, this article analyzes the history of the Islamic Da'wa Party and its emergence as a sociopolitical movement. It looks at the party's impact on Iraq's Shi'i community. In doing so, it argues that it was with the advent of the party and the 1960s period that Iraq's traditionally heterogeneous Shi'i community became increasingly communalized and collectively mobilized.
