Summary / Abstract (Note)As the new administration comes to grip with the realities of international politics and the interdependency with China in that sphere, the Donald Trump Administration has a number of challenges and dilemmas to deal with. On one hand are the campaign promises he has made regarding preventing China from snatching American jobs, on the other hand is the reality of economic interdependency with the same country. Secondly, Trump has sprung a surprise for the Chinese by indicating that the traditional American policy on ‘one China’ may no longer be that inviolable and that he looks forward to negotiating with China even at its expense. However, before one can jump to conclusion that Trump is on an anti-China drive, one should look at US decision under him to withdraw from TransPacific Partnership (TPP).The decision eases situation for China which has been excluded from TPP framework.
