Summary / Abstract (Note) | For the first time during the run up to 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to build hundred smart cities in India. Soon after coming to power, twenty Indian cities were identified for ‘Smart City Modi-fication’. In January 2016, the Nikken-Sekkei Research Institute (NSRI), Japan signed up MoU with IIT Kharagpur to build ‘Indian Smart Cities’. |
