| Summary / Abstract (Note) | When I was about six years old, my father bought me a pair of cheap Chinese canvas shoes. Sporting the new footwear, one day I climbed up to the rooftop of our house where grandpa usually sat sunbathing. As soon as I sat on the floor near him, he looked at my feet and said, ‘Wearing those thieves’ shoes again!’ I will never forget the expression of bitterness, scorn and disgust on his hardened face. |
