Summary / Abstract (Note) | A chronological synopsis relating to the epoch-making changes in Hong Kong would be landmarked thus: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) came into being in 1949. As noticed often in the past, PRC as a matter of policy refuses to accord recognition to accords/compacts signed by regimes preceding its formation, even though such agreements may have been consented to by areas now within PRC. PRC’s refusal to recognize the McMahon Line as India’s border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of PRC, is just one example, amongst many others.
