Summary / Abstract (Note) | The ideological and religious divisions, economic reasons and security concerns in the Sunni-Shia context is more like the competition for influence between Saudi Arabia and Egypt. While Egypt has lost its momentum Saudi Arabia has cultivated its ability to influence the neighbouring countries basically uniting them on religion. But the Muslim countries are not united to accept the leadership of either Iran or Saudi Arabia. Economic factors allied with religion determined the contours of diplomacy and proxy wars .But plummeting oil revenue coupled with the humanitarian crisis arising from the Covid-19 pandemic will adversely affect growth across the world with ripple effect on both the countries. |
