Summary / Abstract (Note)This article recounts the identity change that the Sart Kalmaks in Kyrgyzstan have been undergoing since their arrival in the Issyk-Kul region in the second half of the nineteenth century. Historically related to the Russian Kalmyks on the Volga and other Oirat groups in China and Outer Mongolia, the Sart Kalmaks today see themselves as a part of the Kyrgyz nation.
