Summary/Abstract |
The methodologies being implemented by President Vladimir Putin will continue to determine foreign policy beyond 2008 regardless of who will be the presidential successor in the Kremlin. The key issue will remain the same, namely, what resources and levers can help Russia return to the Greater Orient in practical terms, and whether it needs this return at all.

Summary/Abstract |
The conference was initiated by the RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, jointly with Jilin University (PRC), and included in the list of Russo-Chinese undertakings to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II. The main work to organize and hold the conference has been done from the Russian side, by the RAS IFES, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Russian Federation, and the RAS Presidium; from the Chinese side, by the Presidium of the China Academy of Social Sciences and the Sino-Russian Committee of Friendship, Peace, and Development.
