It is the driving force behind the success of these dynamic endeavours, which essentially justifies the formation of a community feeling among the member-states. The respective repositories of the members can be exchanged and utilised for the optimum utilisation of the available resources thereby enhancing the spectre of reaping benefits. Under the essence of cooperation the member-countries acquire the opportunity of a wider intermingling and knowing each other deeply, which provides the ground for intense understanding among the member- countries wherein the member states expand their perimeters of cooperation sidelining their differences. Summary/Abstract |
The 'Look East Policy' (LEP) of India is essentially an integral endeavour professing India's renewed thrust at cultivating cooperative relations with its South East and East Asian neighbours, wherein China has an immensely crucial role to play. China's pioneering imprint in South East Asia was in fact, a re-awakening call for India to foster closer ties with its South East Asian neighbours. The end of the Cold War ushered in certain geo-economic reorientations in inter-state dynamics. With the centre of gravity predominantly shifting towards the Asia-Pacific region, the foreign policy maneuvers of both India and China had undergone substantive revisions. More pertinently, Beijing's increasing assertiveness in the Asia-Pacific Region instigated India to reformulate the theoretical postulates of its foreign policy. A wave of competitive ardour generated by the process of globalization promoted the relevance of regionalism, thereby leading to the burgeoning importance of regional organisations like ASEAN. In this context India and China's relative proximities to the ASEAN member countries pose to be the focal-point of an insightful as well as objective investigation and academic research.

Summary/Abstract |
The Look East Policy (LEP) of India reiterates the relevance of mutual solidarity and mutual interdependence as an imperative for peace and stability in the extended Asia-Pacific neighbourhood architecture. In its thrust to bolster the essence of Indo-ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) cooperation the Policy espouses to optimise the synergies between India and its South East Asian neighbours and thus aims to situate India's evolving eminence in an intensely dynamic geo-strategic environment.
