If the motive behind the sacking of the DRDO chief Avinash Chander was to completely revamp the research and development activities of the organisation, it must be welcomed. It couldn’t just be a coincidence that the two reports that were made public in the last few weeks — the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and Parliament’s Standing Committee on Defence — have emphasised on the systematic failure of the indigenous projects. It is, however, unfortunate that the scientist who was widely credited with the success of the Agni series of missiles had to face the wrath of the ministry
