Summary/Abstract |
The People’s Action Party’s unexpectedly strong win in Singapore’s September 2015 general election illuminates the dynamics of opposition under electoral authoritarianism. The conduct and outcome of the election raise questions not just of why the much-hyped opposition efforts fizzled, but also of the implications for Singapore politics, moving forward.

Summary/Abstract |
In recent years the Baloch national movement has undergone a sea change. The dismantling of rudimentary representative institutions by the military regime of Pakistan’s president, General Pervez Musharraf, set off a process of radicalization of Baloch nationalism. The excessive reliance on a coercive state apparatus has not only alienated the moderate nationalists but also increased the popularity of a separatist creed. This article argues that aggressive resource exploitation and state repression is pushing Balochs toward secession.

This article argues that the LDP’s entrenched local party organizations have become a restraint on party leadership in pursing key national policy initiatives.

Summary/Abstract |
This study summarizes critical factors that influence a voter’s choice between the appellations “Taiwan” and “Republic of China,” a subject that has not been systematically studied so far. When the legitimacy of “Republic of China” is considered, Taiwanese voters’ political identity pattern reveals itself to be more complicated than simply a choice between unification with China and independence.

Summary/Abstract |
This paper asserts that ethnically dominated political citizenship defines the deep structure of the Malaysian regime, in congruence with ethnic Malay social demand. This, rather than the commonly suggested electoral gerrymander, prevents partisan turnovers because opposition parties, tied to the same congruence, offer no strategic gains to alter the status quo.
