Summary/Abstract |
The idea of democracy is built on the premise that all citizens of the state are equal and the nation offers equal opportunity to all members of the society to participate in the process of self-governance. Democracy, as considered by most to be the best way to govern a nation, succeeds only when all the citizens of society take part in the process in equal measure.

Summary/Abstract |
Several questions were raised in the aftermath of two surgical strikes, even though it amounts to changing nature of Indian response to terrorism. Most important being its objectives and whether those objectives have been achieved or not. The responses that are expected from Indian leadership, is not a strike here and a strike there to dismantle terrorist camps or launching pads, but a response that would lead to a permanent solution to the menace.

Summary/Abstract |
Democracy is the most ideal political construct where everyone is equal owing to the rule of law being the paramount equalizer. The regular manner in which elections to public office are held are tantamount to the functioning of a political system where the voice of the people prevails. Issues motivating people to vote depend on issues domestic and global, with the average constituent aware of the pluses and minuses faced at the individual level.

The abiding relevance of Democracy for all times notwithstanding, when juxtaposed with the contemporary global concerns, the mission for universalizing the democratic experience has to move forward with reliance on certain assumptions and half truths accepted almost as axioms and self evident propositions.

By democracy what we generally mean but which is not at all restricted to periodic elections or as Rounaq Jahan and Rehman Sobhan in their essay entitled Reconstructing Democracy in South Asia have aptly spelled out that ‘popular conceptions of democracy equate it with representative governance transacted through free and fair elections, in contrast to arbitrary rule exercised usually by the military or military-dominated regimes'.

Summary/Abstract |
Gender justice has stumbled into a quagmire of patriarchal orientations so much so that attempts to push forward an environment free from gender prejudices has remained elusive despite incessant social engineering processes. Institutional interventions have broadened the space for human self-realization but treading the path is difficult for women due to the unexpected hazards manifesting in most violent manner. Fighting against gender discrimination is a war against civilization and winning such a war is not easy.

Summary/Abstract |
Pakistan-supported terrorist groups have been targeting establishments of Indian armed forces and security forces in Kashmir since the early twenty-first century. In its response to such incidents, New Delhi had taken care not to cross the Line of Control (LOC) dividing the Indian side of Kashmir from the Pak-occupied Kashmir (POK) – until recently. During its actions in September 2016 following the terrorist attack in Uri; and recently in February 2019 following the terrorist attack in Pulwama, the Indian armed forces were allowed to defy and cross the LOC. This article explores how the policy has changed and what are the implications for this change.
