| Summary / Abstract (Note) | During the battle of Stalingrad the 10th Rifle Division NKVD was responsible for a number of vital internal security and combat tasks on, and immediately behind, the front line. In this article the author assesses the division's combat performance at a critical moment in the Stalingrad battle. Another line of enquiry-one that came as a surprise to the author-was the degree to which the 10th Rifle Division NKVD, (and other NKVD Rifle divisions), was plagued by disciplinary problems, inadequate training, and even desertion. |
