| Summary / Abstract (Note) | La Francophonie is an organisation of states united in their common linguistic and historical heritage. It is similar to the Commonwealth in a number of ways, and in particular in believing that democracy is the best political model, even if it is sometimes absent in certain member states. The aim of this paper is to identify how the two organisations have similar or different conceptions of how democracy should be defended or promoted. It will put the concept of democracy into its historical context and show how La Francophonie has tried implement democratic reforms and aims. |
