Summary / Abstract (Note) | Russia is consistently strengthening its stand as a donor-country in international development assistance. Within the framework of the Paris Club we've reduced the debt burden of developing countries by approximately 12 billion dollars. Within the context of G-8 Russia undertook additional obligations to finance over the coming 4 to 5 years various initiatives in such areas, as education, control of infectious diseases and eradication of energy poverty, totaling about $600 million. In 2007 we provided $210 million for the development assistance, and that does not include debt write-offs. As domestic social and economic conditions improve we will be increasing this figure gradually in compliance with the UN recommendations. |
