Summary / Abstract (Note) | A former British diplomat describes the year which he spent in Georgia with the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) which was set up after the 2008 conflict. Its mission was to provide stabilisation, normalisation and confidence-building. He describes how the EUMM tries to meet these objectives, within the limitations imposed by the Administrative Boundary line (ABL). He also provides a vivid description of every-day life and patrols in heavily armoured vehicles, before assessing the achievements and shortcomings of the EUMM. |
