Summary / Abstract (Note) | In the past, India decided to buy Soviet military equipment because of number of reasons. The country aspiring to be a leading role in the non-aligned movement, did not want to be dependent on Western weapons, tensions with China and Pakistan made into duction of more effective weapon an urgent need, attempt to develop indigenous advanced weapons turned out to be a matter of decades rather than years, and last but not the least, Soviet weapons were cheap, relaible and simple. |
