Summary / Abstract (Note) | This article explores three modes of film diffusion (markets, festivals, and "alter-routes" facilitated by new technologies) and argues that despite significant lowering of barriers to cultural trade, films are often subject to structural and ideational firewalls linked to the state. Thus, political effects of cultural flows-and of the imaginaries they foster-remain highly contested and fundamentally uncertain. |
