Summary / Abstract (Note)While on a tour of the central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan in September 2013, Chinese president Xi Jinping made a historic speech at Nazarbayev University in Almaty. He gave a vision of the revival of the ancient Silk Routes from China through central Asia to turkey and other parts of Europe. The importance of the speech is amplified by fact that he gave a roadmap for the realization of his vision. While proposing an “economic belt along the silk Road”, he called for starting “work in individual areas and link them up over time to cover the whole region”.
