Summary / Abstract (Note) | Today, owing to unsustainable developmental activities of mankind, rapid urbanization, over-population and deforestation, wildlife and wildlife habitats are increasingly endangered. Global warming and pollution pose serious threats to flora and fauna. Likewise, acid rain is destroying animal and plant ecosystems. Many animal and plant species are already on the verge of extinction. Man-animal conflict occurs when animals damage agricultural crops and property, kill livestock or attack people because of degradation and fragmentation of wildlife habitats and the encroachment of humans into forest land. It is critical that the demarcation of elephant reserve should aim at restoration of existing natural habitats, reducing human activities in surrounding areas and strengthening of measures for protection of elephants from poachers. |
