Summary / Abstract (Note)As a sovereign state Cyprus has become a member of the UN (1960), of its specialized agencies and a number of various other international and regional organizations, and on May 1, 2004 the country joined the European Union as a full member.

The Zurich-London Agreements laid the groundwork for the signing of three treaties, namely, the Treaty Concerning the Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus, the Treaty of Guarantee and the Treaty of Alliance. The Zurich-London Agreements have also provided a legal framework for drafting the Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus.
