| Summary / Abstract (Note) | Officials in India and Russia unhesitatingly declare that defence (and civil nuclear cooperation) is the cornerstone of the strategic partnership between India and Russia. Pursued under the rubric of India-Russia Inter Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation valid till 2020, it has transformed from buyer-seller relationship to partnership where both sides seek joint research, development and production. BRAHMOS cruise missile is an excellent example of this partnership with the fifth generation aircraft on the anvil. Since 70 per cent of the Indian military hardware is of Russian origin, this partnership has a bright future. |
