Summary / Abstract (Note) | Coal is India’s most abundant indigenous energy resource, supplying over half of India’s total energy demand. India imports coal to meet only 20 per cent of its total energy demand, but it must import approximately 60 per cent of its oil. With the increase in South Asian region’s dependence on imports of petroleum products, pressure will further increase on their foreign exchange reserve. |
