In his book The Dispensable Nation: American Foreign Policy in Retreat,* Nasr tells of his two years of working at the U.S. State Department during the administration of Barack Obama. Nasr's work is distinguished by its deep analysis of the socioeconomic and political processes now under way in the Middle East.
