Summary / Abstract (Note)Recently the Government decided to call all the 44 Defence Attaches to brief them how they should help in increasing India’s exports of defence items and get them to act as an interface between customer government and industry making defence items. Industry both private and public is gearing up to the idea of making world class weapons for local use and export. Soon India will be a global supplier of defence equipments and systems. We can export only if it is used by the Indian Armed forces. Foreign industries now believe that the government will only buy if they make in India with transfer of technology and they are acting swiftly. Now the government has to make defence industry viable by placing orders that can be implemented for the Indian forces and the companies they get ready to export. In the last three years the government has issued 794 export permissions for a value of over USD 1.3 billion. With Prime Minister announcing that India will push for exports of Made in India Weapons for land sea and air, thus making weapons in India economically viable to all companies venturing into manufacturing in India, for the technology that a foreign company bring in it will get a global market out of India.
