Over the years, he has traveled extensively in this vast region of the world, first as a correspondent of the Soviet newspaper Pravda and then as director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and has had numerous meetings with both representatives of Middle Eastern countries and leading Russian Arabists and Orientalists. His latest book is the product of this endeavor. |
