Summary / Abstract (Note)‘The Union of Myanmar, a unitary parliamentary republic under the constitution of 2008 is one of the eleven countries in the Southeast Asiai. Formerly known as Burma it was a monarchy ruled by various dynasties before British colonized and made part of India until 1937. It came in existence after unification of many tiny states in 1752. Britain annexed the Burman Kingdom including Arakan and Mon states in 1823-85 and made it a province of India in 1886 for the sake of administrative ease.
