Summary / Abstract (Note) | IT WAS WEDNESDAY, March 24, 1999. At eight o'clock in the evening, the first NATO shells fell on military and civilian facilities in Belgrade, Pristina, and Nis. The NATO operation against Yugoslavia, officially codenamed "Allied Force," had begun. Meanwhile, the U.S. Armed Forces' involvement in the NATO operation was codenamed "Noble Anvil," commonly called "Merciful Angel" in Serbia. |
