| Summary / Abstract (Note) | On 30 January 2020, on the advice of the Emergency Committee (EC) of the World Health Organisation (WHO), WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The nomenclature would soon be referred to as 2019-nCoV. Since 2005 when the International Health Regulations came into force, this was the sixth time the WHO has declared an outbreak as a PHEIC. |
