| Summary / Abstract (Note) | A round table on the topic Japan's Relations with Other Countries of East Asia: Problems, Trends, Prospects, organized by and held at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute for Far Eastern Studies (RAS IFES) by V.O. Kistanov, D.Sc. (History), Dean, took place on December 20, 2019. The event opened with a welcoming address from the Institute's Director, professor S.G. Luzyanin, D.Sc. (History). He noted Japan's important role in the Asia-Pacific Region and made special mention of the comments made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the RF presidential press conference of December 19, 2019, regarding Japan and its military cooperation with the United States: "We have no military alliance with China, and we do not plan to create one. But we see that East Asia is attempting to create a military alliance [with] other countries ... the United States, Japan, South Korea. We consider this to be counterproductive, and it will lead to nothing good." |
