Summary / Abstract (Note)In the 21st century, with the diffusion of power from West to East, importance of Indian Ocean in the geopolitical scenario has increased significantly. Strategic significance of Indian Ocean had always been there at the international politics. During the colonial and imperial periods of 19th and 20th centuries, Great Britain was able to maintain its dominance in South Asia because of its control over the Indian Ocean.
