The nearly decade-long presence of Soviet armed forces in Afghanistan in a bid to help the People's Democratic Party (PDPA) put its Utopian dream of building Soviet-modeled socialism into reality was a complicated and controversial period not only in Afghan but also in our own history, and it still receives mixed assessments. |
