Summary / Abstract (Note) | Commissioning of INS Vikrant is yet another feather in India’s naval cap and a galloping march towards enhancing its maritime power and security of its maritime assets. It will certainly add to its domestic shipbuilding capacity with enriched experience in ship-building. May be the next carrier will be delivered at a much faster pace. India has already conceived a concept for building second carrier which could be in 65,000 tonne range, matching the size of the UK’s HMS Queen Elizabeth or China’s second carrier, the Shandong. The commissioning of the indigenous aircraft carrier is proof of India’s technical acumen and engineering skills. |
