| Summary / Abstract (Note) | ON AUGUST 15, 2021, the Taliban (a movement banned in Russia) entered Kabul and announced that they had established control of Afghanistan. Kabul's fall and the Taliban's seizure of power have raised numerous questions among analysts. The speed with which the Taliban were capturing large cities and provinces surprised the international community, Afghan security forces, and the Taliban themselves, who had been poised for a longer fight. |
