Summary / Abstract (Note)THE appearance in 2006 of the organization known today as BRICS was met with skepticism by analysts and experts in the West and in the association's member countries themselves. Skeptics pointed out a host of seemingly insurmountable obstacles - the vast geographical distances between some of the member countries, territorial disputes (between China and India), ideological rifts, mutually incompatible political and legal systems, and finally, major cultural differences [12, p. 17].
