Summary / Abstract (Note)The current government is determined to make India a global player. And the G20 presidency provides India with the opportunity to showcase the country’s potential whilst also giving equal weight to all the states. Since the 1990s, the northeastern states have had a significant influence in defining India’s foreign policy. The Act East Policy, as well as various bilateral, regional, and multilateral agreements and engagements in South and Southeast Asia, has elevated the region’s profile. The B20 meetings held in various northern states have created new opportunities for the region that go beyond regional engagement and aspirations. The paper briefly discusses the imperatives and opportunities presented by the G20 meetings in the north-eastern states with emphasis on Manipur.
