| Summary / Abstract (Note) | The Pacific Island countries have received renewed attention from the major powers like China and the US as well her allies. In view of the strategic, political and economic significance of these countries, the region may witness a new contestation for strategic influence between major powers. In this background, India too has stepped up its engagement with PICS at bilateral, regional and global levels. India’s engagement with PICs is in tune with the core element of her foreign policy like Act East, South- South Cooperation, and development partnership based on transparency, inclusiveness and needs of the recipients. In a way India’s engagement with PICs is both benign and development oriented. |
