Summary / Abstract (Note) | New Delhi’s strategic foray beyond East Asia and the Indian Ocean, especially into South Pacific region during the last decade, is viewed as a logical extension of India’s “Act East Policy.” Focusing on the 14 Pacific Island nations, commonly known as the Small Island Nations, spread across Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia in the Pacific, India is venturing into the region for developmental partnerships. Particularly since 2014, India is garnering close ties with these nations under the “Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation” (FIPIC). |
