Summary/Abstract |
Abd-el-Krim al-Khattabi's guerilla tactics are said to have influenced several renowned revolutionaries, such as Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong. There is evidence that Che Guevara equally employed at least some of the tactics and methods, which were devised by the Rifis. After all, Alberto Bayo, the much respected guerilla trainer of Che, had fought during his military career for a relatively long period of time against the Rifis. Castro, yet another role model for Che, mentions in his biography that he read about the battle of Annual, one of the most successful attacks against the Spanish initiated by Abd-el-Krim in 1921. There are also claims that Che had met Abd-el-Krim in 1959 in Cairo. Castro does not mention that he had discussed with Che anything about his readings on the Rif War, but he clearly states that Bayo used to teach in his camp guerilla methods that he had encountered during his assignments in Morocco. However, neither Bayo nor Che (or their biographers) mention that any of the tactics imparted during the training were from the time of Abd-el-Krim's struggle. The only person praised by both men is the Nicaraguan rebel leader Augusto César Sandino. This article compares the tactical teachings of Bayo as well as the operational methods used by Che during his battles in Cuba with the methods applied by the Rifis under Abd-el-Krim's leadership, and highlights a number of tactical similarities. It also finds that the guerilla tactics applied by Sandino have little in common with the methods described by Bayo.

Summary/Abstract |
Bangladesh was born in December 1971, after Pakistan rejected installation of the Awami League of East Pakistan, that had won the national elections held in end 1970 and then proceeded to crush democracy in East Pakistan by arresting the leaders of the Awami League and brutally suppressing its democratic movement. The Awami League and the people of East Pakistan were thus forced to resort to guerilla warfare and fight for independence. In this fight the Muslim population of East Pakistan got divided. Some Bengali Muslims who supported the fundamentalist right, sided with Pakistan in its attempt to crush the move for independence by the majority of Bengali Muslims.

Summary/Abstract |
In August of 1963, the United States was swept up in unprecedented mass mobilization. Two hundred thousand Americans--black, white, rich, and poor from across the nation--poured into the National Mall in Washington, D.C. armed with picket signs, freedom songs, and a fervent dedication to the light for equality before the law. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the venue at which Martin Luther King Jr. uttered his lamed "I have a dream" incantation, was a watershed moment in the long and tumultuous civil rights struggle in the United States. It set' forth new genre of civil rights activism and became a template for subsequent generations of political protest around the globe. Indeed, over the course of the ensuing decade, university students in France aligned themselves with trade union workers to subvert the Gaullist regime, the military dictatorship in Brazil struggled to withstand the escalating guerilla warfare leveled against it, and opposition to the Vietnam War simmered across the United States, London, Paris, Berlin, and Rome..

Summary/Abstract |
Romanian anti-communist armed resistance has received relatively little attention outside the country, despite its resemblance to other small, diffused, headless insurgencies being fought in the first decades of the twenty-first century. This article deals with military operations mounted against the partisans, with a special focus on tactics such as cordoning, checkpoints, patrols, sweeps, ambushes, and informed strikes. Based mostly on primary sources, it highlights success and failure against determined and elusive guerrillas.
