Summary/Abstract |
Rose Jacobs and the organization among whose leaders she numbered-Hadassah, the American Women's Zionist organization-made, during the 1930s and 1940s, important and unprecedented inroads into the Zionist establishment. Jacobs and other Hadassah women used their organization's size and financial power to claim a voice in the making of Zionist policy both in the United States and in the Jewish community in Palestine. The political, international, and economic crises of these two decades enabled Hadassah to expand out of the traditionally female areas to which it had originally been restricted-health and education-and make its voice heard on other issues, among them Jewish-Arab relations. This culminated in Jacobs' election to the Jewish Agency Executive in 1938. Hadassah broke the limitations under which Jewish women's organizations had theretofore operated and used its newfound influence to offer alternatives to the male Zionist leadership's cultural, social, and political doctrines.

Summary/Abstract |
This article applies ethnographic methods and historical analysis to explore Jewish-Arab relations within Israeli freemasonry. This article tracks local Masonic history as the fraternity development from individual lodges under colonial like obedience's in late Ottoman and Mandate -era Palestine into a national level organization, under the ground lodge of the state of Israel. In light of an official position of political noninvolvement, Jewish and Arab-Palestine members conveyed shared value of universal fraternity, but variable interpretation of citizenship and nationalism.

Summary/Abstract |
The conflict between the State of Israel and the Negev Bedouin over land is not new; State vs. nomadic land ownership is an on-going dispute originating as early as the Ottoman Empire. Illegal construction and land use are its widespread expressions, making it difficult for the State to supply basic needs to its citizens. Furthermore, the dispute creates obstacles to the development of the Negev for the benefit of all its inhabitants. This article will try to lay out the Government's approach, as the author perceives it, to the resolution of the land dispute, through reaching financial settlements with various Bedouin individuals and tribes. Monetary and land compensation have both been offered, along with the revival of the Land Title Settlement procedure, as part of a new Government policy.
