ASEAN multinational enterprises: a structural model analysis of strategic coherence / Bartels, Frank L; Giao, Ha Nam Khanh; Ohlenburg, Tim J   Journal Article
Bartels, Frank L Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2006.
Summary/Abstract Multinational enterprises (MNEs) from ASEAN have been internationalizing, and the dynamics of this process are of interest in the empirical literature of international business. The international organizational aspects of 135 ASEAN MNEs are examined, using Linear Structural Relations (LISREL, a statistical software package), to model their strategic coherence, dispersed functionality and international management capability. The key results are that the proposed LISREL model confirms that the predicted relationships exhibit high goodness-of-fit indices. Dispersed functionality significantly predicts strategic coherence. Dispersed functionality and international management capability display a nonrecursive, or interdependent, correlation.

Extent of single sourcing in defence procurement and its releva: a first look / Pyman, Mark; Wilson, Regina; Scott, Dominic   Journal Article
Scott, Dominic Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract Single-source, or non-competitive, defence procurement is a widespread phenomenon that is prevalent both in developing countries and in advanced arms exporting countries. The usual competitive bidding process - which assists in both value-for-money evaluation and in lowering corruption risk - is used much less often than expected in defence procurement. Whilst there can be good reasons for single sourcing, the opportunities and inducements for corruption are significantly escalated. Further, some countries that claim to employ single-source only in rare instances are found to have high percentages of non-competitive defence procurement. This is of particular concern as defence is perceived to be one of the more corruption-prone international business sectors, as identified in the 2002 Bribe Payers Index (Transparency International, 2002), with procurement presenting a significant source of corruption risk. The work presented here gives data on the percentage of defence single source procurement in a number of countries. Some countries were transparent and open about this data, even where it showed them in an unfavourable light. Most were not, citing sensitivity reasons or even that the data did not exist as reasons for refusal.

International business negotiation in a globalizing world: reflections on the contributions and future of a (Sub) field / Weiss, Stephen E   Journal Article
Weiss, Stephen E Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2006.
Summary/Abstract Research on international business negotiation has been underway for 35 years. It has developed within two major paradigms: the macro-strategic, which focuses on organizational wholes, and the micro-behavioral, which focuses on individuals. The former further divides into business-government relations and interfirm relationship streams, while the latter branches into comparative and intercultural studies. While this article summarizes these bodies of literature, its main purpose is to offer a critique of this research, consider its contribution to practice and to the field of international negotiation, and stimulate ideas for future research

Nation branding in Central Asia: a new campaign to present ideas about the state and the nation / Marat, Erica   Journal Article
Marat, Erica Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract This essay examines the national images that Central Asian states are trying to present to international audiences. Since 1991 all Central Asian states have created national ideologies, but only three-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan-have programmes in place to capture the attention of foreign businessmen, politicians and tourists. Following the pattern of crafting national ideologies for domestic audiences in all three states, the ruling elites have led the effort to create a unique national 'brand' identity for their country.
