Summary/Abstract |
The successful realisation of the flagship programmes, Galileo/EGNOS and GMES has been in doubt as a result of the current financial constraints. In providing an overview of the role of these two programmes in relation to implementing European policies - with sector-by-sector information on the ways they can help fulfil specific EU objectives - this paper attempts to demonstrate why and how they must be successfully operationalised. It therefore continues by analysing their political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal strengths and weaknesses and makes policy recommendations on this basis. Utilising these flagship programmes to carry through major European policies will be crucial for realising their great potential and achieving the Europe 2020 goals of the European Union.

Summary/Abstract |
Myanmar is a country with significant politico-strategic imprint for the countries of South and Southeast Asia, and India is no exception to this phenomenon. Given its endowment of rich natural resources and a strong historical link with India, the changing politico-economic dynamics in the country, against the backdrop of the transformation from a military-led to a democratic administration, augurs well for the development of bilateral ties between India and Myanmar in the present global order. However, the casting shadow of China and the United States, both historically as well as in recent times, on the politico-economic and strategic profile of Myanmar definitely has a deep impact on Indian foreign policy formulation and practice, given the renewed importance accorded to Yangon within the domain of the 'Look East' policy. It is in this matrix that the present article tries to analyze the imprints of the shifting politico-strategic paradigm in Myanmar on India through the prism of the chosen parameters.

Summary/Abstract |
This study approaches the Chinese reform process from a political-economic point of view, focusing primarily on institutional changes. Besides revealing the main factors behind the different phases of the reforms, it argues that in the framework of the current authoritarian regime, vested interests work against the continuation of the reforms, making it impossible to fully establish the institutional framework of a market economy. Current rents and privileges also deter the elite from implementing serious political reforms, leading to a trap that prevents the completion of the transition process.
