Summary/Abstract |
Prasanta Sahoo argues that in view of their consanguinity, shared history and cultural affinity, SAARC members are fated to cooperate, in spite of the artificial, colonially drawn borders that separate them. Their prosperity and security depend upon their ability to rise above differences and animosities but India must work to win and deserve the trust of its smaller neighbours.

Summary/Abstract |
This article explores whether and how pre-communist images and stereotypes of Russia and Russians and Poland and Poles are being perpetuated in the framing of Russian-Polish relations by the contemporary Russian and Polish print media. It is hypothesised that the stable core of pre-communist Russian public discourse about Poland and Polish narratives of Russia survived the forced internationalism of the communist period and is present today, although it is also being reimagined at the margins. Using a sample of 1,208 articles from Russian and Polish daily newspapers, the article examines contemporary narratives and their relationship to the old discourses.

Summary/Abstract |
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj calls for deeper economic integration with Dynamic ASEAN Region. She talks most practically of shared security and shared prosperity. 10 ASEAN leaders came to Delhi at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister, a triumph of Indian diplomacy as PM Modi says India does not covet others territory a welcome reassurance to countries of the ASEAN region. India hosted leaders of 10 ASEAN countries for the first time during our Republic Day celebrations this year giving a strong message to China that India is great friend of theirs. All want to have an independent foreign policy. No one willingly wants to give military bases to China, in lieu of development aid. China if it gives money for development wants it back in cash or military bases.

Summary/Abstract |
Foreign Policy of any country should be so framed that relations with neighbours should be given the highest priority because that, to a great extent, determines the country's standing in the comity of nations. Obviously, India's emergence as a regional power and a key global player also depends on its image and standing in the neighbourhood of the South Asian region. Fortunately, the new Indian government under Narendra Modi's dispensation has taken certain reasonable steps towards forging closer ties with all of its neighbours in the subcontinent.

Summary/Abstract |
PM Modi now seems to be making neighbourhood consolidation one of the main focus areas of his first term in office. There is also a genuine need for doing so early on if India were to continue aspiring for a greater regional role, and build upon it a global role to call its own.The post-War experience of the 20th century showed that super-powers began with keeping their neighbourhoods on their side.
