Summary/Abstract |
China and Pakistan have been complementing each other for over four decades now for their strategic requirements. Pakistan, obviously found an all weather friend in Beijing, for fulfilling its military needs and, most importantly, its nuclear requirement. Over the years China has provided Pakistan a wide range of conventional weapons systems and Pakistan’s nuclear and missile build-up has primarily been with Chinese assistance. While Pakistan turned towards Beijing as a trusted a friend in dealing with its ‘implacable’ enemy, India, and inconsistent partner, the US, China, on the other hand, found a feasible option in Pakistan to contain India and also the expansion of US dominance in the region.

Summary/Abstract |
Pakistan has been in existence for more than six decades but the state
has not been able to define its identity till date. Born as a result of the
demand for a separate Muslim homeland, it eventually stood as the
saviour of Islam and, in the process, the military led country has adopted
policies based on religion which have had severe repercussions for the
state. Religion has been used in Pakistan in roles ranging from nationbuilding to strategic security.

Summary/Abstract |
Pakistan is struggling to deal with the coronavirus pandemic due to weak health care facilities, economic depression, lack of coordination between the federal and provincial governments and inadequate infrastructure. Although all the countries hit by the pandemic have been severally impacted economically, socially and in some cases politically, Pakistan faces grave challenges due to the existing economic stress with low growth rate and mounting debt burden. Prime Minister Imran Khanhas tried to assure the nation (more than once!) that the COVID-19 problem is under control.
