India and APEC / Jha, Pankaj   Article
Jha, Pankaj Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract The forthcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in the fourth quarter of 2015 in the Philippines might witness India gaining entry to the economic grouping. APEC is an international grouping of 21 countries including the United States and Japan, which promotes free trade among its members. With a new government in India, it was felt, that the Obama administration had an opportunity to revitalise its economic ties with India by the latter’s inclusion in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. In January 2015 when President Obama visited Delhi, it was hinted that US would support India’s membership in APEC.3 The 13th meeting of RIC (Russia, India, and China) foreign ministers held in February 2015 also echoed similar views. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had added, “India’s participation in APEC has been welcomed by both China and Russia”.

Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract Over the past decade, a number of countries in the Asia Pacific region have concluded a new generation of FTAs that liberalise trade in goods and services while also containing investment protection provisions. This paper provides an overview of the recent trends giving special attention to the impact of Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) cases which has influenced the evolution of investment rule-making over the last decade. The paper asserts that investment disputes have influenced the refinement of the provisions of the new generation of investment agreements as well as the inclusion of a series of procedural and substantive innovations in these agreements. *Ambassador of Costa Rica to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. This paper was written on the basis of several research projects in which the author participated, before assuming the current position with the Costa Rican government, as consultant with UNCTAD. On a comprehensive energy strategy for Russia in the Asia-Pacif / Ivashentsov, G   Journal Article
Ivashentsov, G Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2013.
Summary/Abstract CHAIRMANSHIP of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2012 and the APEC summit in Vladivostok have opened a new phase in the Asian policy of Russia. The point at issue is to cement the recognition by the international community of the weighty role of our country as a Eurasian power, not only in Euro-Atlantic but also in Asia-Pacific affairs. Today, the significance of the AP region has increased dramatically - both for the world in general, and Russia in particular, which is logical. For it is there that the center of world economic and political life is shifting from the Euro-Atlantic area. There are located the most powerful economies of the world - American, Chinese, and Japanese. The geographical proximity of the burgeoning South Asian giant India is being increasingly felt in the affairs of the region.

Revitalising APEC: Free Trade Area in Asia Pacific (FTAAP) and its prospects / Terada, Takashi   Journal Article
Terada, Takashi Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2009.
Summary/Abstract The proposal of FTAAP by the United States and its announcement of its intention to participate in TPP can be interpreted as an expression of its desire to restore APEC to its role as a central regional economic institution. If these schemes materialized, this development would also represent a victory on the part of the United States, with the introduction of discriminatory and legally binding mechanism as APEC's norms, given that it was the United States that intensified efforts to create this norm for regional integration within the APEC process over the decades.
