Forging a global network in navies / Greenert, Jonathan; Foggo, James M - III   Journal Article
Greenert, Jonathan Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract As the world becomes more complex and the oceans less secure, we are compelled to strengthen the bonds of international maritime cooperation. The United States of America maintains the largest maritime force in the world. The U.S. Navy is uniquely postured to operate forward and be ready to respond to any threat globally. This enables us to have naval forces present where it matters and when it matters. Throughout history, however, we have learned that it is almost always in the best interest of nations to act together when responding to crises, whether it involves deterrence or combat or providing humanitarian support. Accordingly, the U.S. Navy has rarely operated alone in a crisis. One of our advantages, as a nation and as a Navy, has been our extensive network of alliances, partnerships, and coalitions.

Publication 2014.
Summary/Abstract The headline announced: "Edmond J. Moran is Dead at 96: Admiral Led Tug Fleet on D-Day." It marked the passing of one of the most influential figures in 20th-century U.S. shipping history. 1 The U.S. Naval Institute conducted a series of interviews with Rear Admiral Moran in 1977 and published his oral history in 2004. 2 In it, he traced his childhood in Brooklyn, New York, and his joining the Moran Towing Company in 1915 as a teenager. He worked on board the tugs during summer vacations and then launched a 69-year career that would take him from office boy, to president, to chairman of the Board of Directors. The company had been founded in 1860 by his grandfather, Michael, an Irish immigrant who had had his start in the United States driving mules on the Erie Canal.

Sovereignty and Maritime Practices in the Western Indian Ocean, 1700–1900 / Chowdhary, Mir Kamruzzaman   Journal Article
Chowdhary, Mir Kamruzzaman Journal Article
0 Rating(s) & 0 Review(s)
Summary/Abstract This article examines how far existing work on the Indian Ocean has focused on aspects like sovereignty and maritime law in the western Indian Ocean and argues for more research in this field. The conduct of shipping in the western Indian Ocean took a drastic shift during the period from 1700 to 1900 when an organised admiralty law was drafted in India, indicating that the role played by the British in this process cannot be disregarded. Highlighting the struggle between various European powers for supremacy over maritime trade and commerce in the Indian Ocean by analysing the available sources, this article identifies numerous gaps in studies of the Indian Ocean, which need further scholarly exploration.

Indeed, if we are to survive we must recognize our place in the natural World and make a concerted effort to leave lighter ecological footprints. The Sustainability evolution shines light on the path that we must all follow to make this world a more sustainable and peaceful place for all Iivings things." Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE' it was almost four and a half decades ago that the global community, for the first time began to sense the finite nature of usable resources and the looming threat to human existence. First to lead the way towards this 'new consciousness' was the Club of Rome, founded in April 1968 by Aurelio Peccei, an Italian industrialist and Alexander King, a Scottish scientist, and, the club's prospectus titled "The Predicament of Mankind"? In 1972, the Club attracted immense public attention with its report "The Limits to Growth", making it a best-selling environmental book in history. The report by a team of analysts from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) predicted that economic growth could not continue indefinitely. By linking the world economy with environment, The Limits to Growth was the first The author was a Member of the Indian Delegation to the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea for all the Sessions of the Conference between 1975 and 1982.
